Allergy Skin Testing Medication Information

 

Allergy skin testing series is performed in the office.

There are 3-5 sessions to complete series. Each series takes 20-30 minutes (2 sets of prick tests, 2 sets of intradermal tests, and foods).

 

Prick Testing is done on the patient’s inner forearm. Intradermal testing is done on the back of the upper arms. Short sleeve shirts are recommended to wear.

All patients must discontinue their ANTIHISTAMINES before testing:

(short acting) 96 hours before testing:

Benadryl

Chlortrimeton

Tylenol / Advil P.M.

Sudafed

Diphenhydramine

Tavist

NyQuil

(Long acting) 1 week before testing:

Claritin

Clarinex

Allegra

Zyrtec

Xyzal

Patanol eye drops

Bepreve eye drops

Astelin nasal spray

Astepro nasal spray

Patanase nasal spray

Dymista nasal spray

Any patient taking Beta Blockers must notify staff before testing. Skin tests will not be performed.
